Scientific seminar in the Maritime Museum to reflect on the transformation of the inner city maritime space on Zorrotzaurre, Ribera de Deusto and the banks of the Estuary

19/02/2019

On Friday 22 February, the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum is hosting a scientific seminar to reflect on the transformation of the inner city maritime space on Zorrotzaurre, Ribera de Deusto and the banks of the Estuary.

The seminar aims to exhibit and disseminate the original research work undertaken that in previous phases was brought together in Volume 5 of the Specialised Maritime Studies Collection (Maritimidades) promoted and sponsored by the Maritime Museum. The monographic work entitled “La Ribera de Deusto y Zorrotzaurre en la Ría de Bilbao. Análisis urbano, sociocultural y estético del espacio marítimo” [“The Ribera de Deusto and Zorrotzaurre on the Bilbao Estuary. An urban, socio-cultural and aesthetic analysis of the maritime space”], contains ten texts by as many authors who took part in a research project funded by the Basque Country Public University (UPV/EHU).

The seminar will comprise four working sessions. The first will focus on “City Planning actions and cultural facilities”. This will be followed by a session devoted to “Heritage – between ruins and symbols”. The third session will be a “Historical, architectural and town-planning approach to the canal and the estuary”. And the final session will address “Art and archaeological perceptions”.
